How.can I Slice S Upload Picture Using Cricut

How to upload your own files to Cricut Design Space

It's that time (I'd put the dancing girl emoji here but tin can't figure out how to do that on my keyboard)… Alexis from Persia Lou and I are dorsum with some other Silhouette VS Cricut challenge! Today we wanted to go basic and have on something that nosotros practise all the fourth dimension equally bloggers who make our own designs. We're talking through how to cut any epitome by uploading your ain files! I'grand squad Cricut then I'thousand walking yous through how to do that in Cricut Blueprint Space and Alexis is going to walk through the process for Silhouette. Only we're non just talking basic uploads.

I'm chatting nearly the iii different file types (.svg .png and .jpg) that I use on the regular (what are the differences!? what works all-time for what!?), how to change colours of designs, how to add patterns (2 ways) for print then cut, and how to get your picture show from paper to vinyl using only your camera phone and the Cricut Design Space software.

If y'all're looking for how to go your lettering set for cut using PHOTOSHOP instead of design space… you lot can find that in this tutorial here. Simply you don't NEED photoshop if you'd rather save those bucks.

Before I get into the step by steps of uploading each file type, I wanted to bespeak out the three unlike ways you can become designs onto your mat in Design Space. In that location are a TON of screen shots in this post because I'm doing several tutorials in 1 And so what I've washed is made them minor for ease of reading and if yous would like to see information technology bigger, just click and information technology will take you to the full paradigm size. Sound practiced? Adept ;) And before we practice that… how almost the video?

The three unlike places you can insert designs onto your mat is the 'Images' tab, 'Shapes, and 'Upload'. Images is where you'll find everything that is offered by Cricut. There are free images, there are paid images, and there are images that are included in Cricut Admission (a subscription service). I use this most for bones images for party themes (like the train for this political party). Shapes is handy, but in that location's not a ton to cull from. And upload? That's what we're going to concentrate on for this tutorial.

When you click on 'Upload', there are 2 different options. At that place's Upload [a cut epitome] or Pattern Fill up. I always adopt to employ the upload pick… even when I'thousand going to use whatsoever that image is for a fill (not a cut outline). I take an example of that in this mail/video equally well.

IMPORT SVG IMAGES TO Blueprint Infinite

SVG Images are the easiest type of images to upload into Design Infinite. If you buy a 'Cut' file, this is typically what you lot would exist buying (like our Fresh Cut SVG Bundles). SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphic and that means that you can size it up or down without losing quality. These images besides have the most options for customization within the Design Space Software and that is because information technology imports each cut as a dissever slice. For an example on this i, I used this simple floral graphic that Erin fabricated for the Spring Fresh Cut Bundle (no longer available). I chose this one considering it is only three pieces, but if you import a larger file keep in listen that it will wait much more overwhelming in the layers tab because there is a layer for each cut fabricated.

To upload any file type, striking that little deject symbol with the upwards arrow. Click upload [cut file] and select your file. That will open upwards a screen where y'all can name your file and add keywords. Then you can hit Insert Image and information technology will be inserted onto your canvas. When y'all click on that design and drag it effectually, it will seem like one piece. Information technology sticks together after all. Merely find in the layers tab on the right at present each piece is a different layer? You can alter the colour of each slice and cutting them off of dissimilar maps. When yous accept sized it to your preference, hit Make IT (tiptop correct) and see how the pieces lay out on the mat.

They're on separate mats! Of grade they are, considering they're different colours and you demand two different colours of vinyl. If yous're anything like me, you'll probably go back and make all the pieces i colour and attempt again. Only y'all'll find the design is all jumbled. Here'due south why. Cricut Design Space tries to brand the best utilize of each piece of vinyl by arranging all the different pieces on your mat for you. This might conserve vinyl but it might exist a pain in the barrel if y'all're trying to get everything lined up by manus. SO go dorsum to your canvas and select all the pieces of your design. You can do this by property downward CTRL on your keyboard and selecting all the layers on the layer console OR you tin just click and drag your mouse over the design to select it all. And then click that fiddling Attach (paperclip) push button at the lesser of the layers panel (highlighted in blue). This volition hold all the piece together without permanently losing the data of them being separate. When you click 'make it' you lot will see that the blueprint holds together this way. And since they're just attached, you can disassemble them at someday and change the size of one pieces or decide to cut the rose out of royal and the leaves out of green. Here'due south the shirt I made my daughter using this design:

How to cut one SVG file out of two different colours using Cricut Design Space

I made this shirt by keeping the rose on a dissever mat (I left it imperial in Design Infinite) and selecting the leaves and attaching those two before cutting them. The leaves are fabricated with Cricut Glitter Iron On and the bloom is made with Cricut Foil Fe On.

IMPORT PNG IMAGES TO Design SPACE

PNG files are my most used with Cricut. PNG stands for Portable Network Graphic which is a lossless image compression file blazon. That ways that it has a lot more information than a JPG (for example) and the *biggest* thing to me is that it can accept a transparent background which makes importing and using them for cut actually easy. This is the type of file I use the Well-nigh often with Cricut. The images upload as One layer and that ways that it will stick together and cutting exactly as information technology is imported. What does that mean? You can't easily change the colour of one piece of the design or rearrange letters of a design in one case imported. Simply most of the time… we want it to look like how we imported it, right? So that works best for me.

I create my PNG images in Photoshop subsequently scanning in lettering or directly off my iPad Pro (Procreate exports in PNG format which is crazy handy) but before I had either of those, I used PicMonkey.com to create my PNG graphics with transparent backgrounds. This 'Bright Ideas' example I made on my iPad Pro and exported with the transparent background. To upload a PNG with a transparent groundwork, you again click that little 'Upload' with the cloud and you volition have a few more steps than you did with the PNG. Afterwards you lot select your file, you will be prompted with choosing if information technology's a Unproblematic, Moderately Complex, or Circuitous epitome. For this uncomplicated blackness/transparent design I cull 'Simple'. Then, yous'll be brought to a page where y'all can erase any parts you don't want. For a file that already has a transparent background and no pieces you lot do not want… you can skip over this step. And so, you'll exist prompted to cull either impress then cut for your upload or merely a cut simply image. Choose cut only and your design will be loaded into your uploaded images gallery and can exist inserted onto your canvas.

Once information technology's on the canvas, you lot can encounter that it has a transparent background, you can move it effectually and resize it merely like the SVG but you'll notice there's only one layer in the layer panel. This means you tin can't select just the lightbulb and make information technology a unlike color to print on a different mat (although you could duplicate it and contour the lines to have the parts separate… but I'thou not going to go over that hither). When you hit 'Make Information technology', yous'll come across that because it's all on one layer, the pieces don't jump around- like shooting fish in a barrel peasy! This way information technology volition cut all in the exact layout you uploaded it in, making it easy to apply your transfer record and popular information technology onto your surface. Here's the 'bright ideas' decal on my dayplanner.

I fabricated it using. Expressions Vinyl Smooth Gilded Glitter Vinyl and in the video, you'll run across I'm using their newspaper transfer tape as well.

IMPORT JPG IMAGES TO Blueprint Space

JPG is a photographic file type which is named afterwards the grouping that named the file type (from what I sympathize). It'due south perfect for photos as it handles all the colours beautifully Only it cannot have a transparent background. This means that you demand to make changes when you are uploading the image through the Design Space software. Let's take a await!

This example I lettered/illustrated on my iPad Pro again. Yous'll see that it has some colour and is not just black and transparent (because it'due south a JPG). I fabricated the groundwork a solid gray to make it easy to erase. This is what you volition want to do to brand it easiest to take a simple selection for a impress then cut paradigm. You can also do a PNG with that white background and consign without the gray background if you are working in Procreate. SO when you get to upload it in, it'south the exact aforementioned steps. Click that fiddling 'Upload' deject and then when yous get to the paradigm type, I chose 'complex' to retain all the quality of the design I desire to print. Then, when information technology'due south fourth dimension to erase, I chose the magic wand (highlighted in blueish) and clicked the gray to erase the background. I didn't have to practise any more touch ups since this prototype was very clean. Depending on your image, you might need to do a bit more in this tab earlier moving on. When you go to the side by side screen, y'all can cull either print then cut or a cut only image. For this one, of course, I chose impress so cut. You can encounter how clean the cut lines are on the cut merely image- that'south how you know you don't have anything additional to erase in the previous tab. Then it will populate in your uploaded images and yous can insert information technology onto your canvas.

Like the PNG, you will run across that information technology it is i layer but in the layers tab. Instead of the cutting symbol past the layer, y'all'll see a printer instead. When you lot striking 'Make information technology' it will load onto information technology's own print then cut mat (with a black sensor box effectually it). From hither you would print and and then cut it. For a full tutorial on using print so cut on printable vinyl- I've got a video and written tutorial on that RIGHT Here.

Take me away notebook: How to upload your own JPG image for print then cut with Cricut

I used this vinyl decal (made with Cricut Printable Vinyl) on my Moleskin black paper notebook and am actually and then happy with how this ane turned out! I recollect I will definitely be using this blueprint again in the hereafter.

HOW TO Utilise JPG IMAGES FOR PATTERN FILL (TWO Means)

Alright, I likewise wanted to demonstrate that 'Blueprint Fill' option and why I don't bother using it. Starting time, let me show you how I add a pattern to a shape or design in Cricut Pattern Space. Y'all'll want to upload your pattern (I uploaded this cute floral watercolour blueprint for my terminal Cricut Vs Silhouette tutorial. It'due south from a pack of watercolour florals purchased hither.

Screen shot:

You would follow the exact same steps as the JPG image above (without erasing the groundwork). Once you've inserted it in, add the shape you'd like the blueprint to make full. I went simple and chose a middle from the shapes tab but yous could use any PNG or SVG image you've uploaded besides. Lay your shape over your design exactly where yous want the design to fill. You can resize the blueprint and move it around as well until you're happy. Then select both layers by holding downwardly CTRL on your keyboard and selecting both the layers on the layer panel OR you can but click and drag your mouse over the design and shape to select them both. And so click 'Slice' at the bottom of the layers tab. This will give you three layers. You can click the little eye abreast the layers you lot don't want to use (or merely delete them) so yous're left with your pattern filled shape. I love how much control this gives me.

The other style you lot can become this effect is to upload your watercolour florals (pattern) as a Pattern Fill up instead of under the standard Upload. When you go to the upload tab (that little cloud), you have two options. We've been using the Upload choice, now let'southward click the Pattern Make full pick. You select your design and then you'll get to characterization or title your blueprint before you save it. When you get back to your uploaded images gallery… yous'll see it's not there. That'southward considering information technology'south been saved with the patterns, not with the images. You demand to select the shape or paradigm that you'd like to fill up with the design starting time and and then turn it to a print (not cut simply) in the layers tab. Then you will see the option of 'Patterns' in the layers tab and your pattern will show up there. When you lot select it, information technology volition be added to your shape. At present in the video, I said y'all couldn't alter that design but information technology was pointed out to me that you can make some changes it just doesn't provide the aforementioned amount of control as the slice selection does.

Floral Watercolour Patterned Letters on Printable Vinyl

I totally forgot to make these ones into an actual projection until I was editing the video and realized I didn't have i! But this is the technique and florals I used for this DIY- y'all tin find the full tutorial for that in this post.

HOW TO Get YOUR LETTERING FROM PAPER TO CUT USING ONLY DESIGN SPACE

Alright, this is the really fun one (if you like to hand letter!). Right off the bat… I do this in Photoshop usually. Not because Design Space tin't practice it (I'1000 going to show you how information technology can!) merely considering I'm way speedier in Photoshop. If y'all're wanting a tutorial on how to practise this in Photoshop (did you lot know y'all tin can endeavour Photoshop for a month for free to come across how you similar it?!), yous can check out my tutorial on that RIGHT HERE. But for this tutorial… let's look at how to get your lettering from paper to vinyl with merely Cricut Pattern Infinite and your camera phone!

Let me preface by saying that if you practice accept a scanner, that volition requite you lot a ameliorate quality pic to begin with. But you lot actually don't need one if y'all're not wanting to retain epitome quality (like watercolour details). So I took this photo using my camera phone (low calorie-free and all… it's not a slap-up photo) and went to that upload tab (the deject) and chose this image. When prompted with selecting the paradigm blazon, cull Elementary image. I know, it seems like it's not a uncomplicated image only by choosing this, it will simplify your photo, losing image quality (which you don't need anyways), only making information technology easier to delete the parts you don't want. See how information technology makes it less detailed? This is perfect! The first thing you should exercise is crop it downwardly to just the expanse you want to keep. Even if you don't have a pen in the motion-picture show, I find that the edges of the photograph are always darker and I e'er seem to accept piffling scraggler dark areas to erase if I don't ingather first.

Once it'due south cropped downward, you can utilise that magic wand to erase the background. Y'all'll also want to delete the background within your loopy letters (similar in the eastward). Y'all can click on the 'preview' button (highlighted in bluish) and check and run into what it will look similar as a cut file. You lot might see some dots exterior of your design that need erasing. Switch to your eraser tool to do this. I toggle dorsum and forth betwixt preview and erase until I'm happy. When you're happy, you can choose 'cut only paradigm' and insert information technology onto your canvas for cut. That's what this decal is on the notebook. I did go dorsum in though and evidence an choice to requite your decal a brushy look. You can see the brushy detail, for example, in this project hither. To erase some of those 'brushy' spots, just click on your magic wand and delete some of the lighter coloured areas. If it deletes too much, you lot tin disengage and go into the advanced details to lower your colour tolerance to endeavor again. Just a little tip if y'all like that brushy look :)

Just like the PNG and JPG images in a higher place, this will import all as 1 layer and retain it'south layout when yous click 'Arrive'.

I didn't take anything else that needed a decal (I've stuck vinyl on everything in my life already) and so I put this one on the inside encompass of my notebook. This is just the Cricut Agglutinative Vinyl in Rose.

Alright! I SO hope that you found all the details you lot needed in this tutorial. If you take any suggestions for future Silhouette VS Cricut videos, feel free to request them in the comments!
